Scopes

The stainless, austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum material 1.4404 ESU has improved material properties due to the electroslag remelting process (ESR).

The composition of the alloying elements enables an excellent corrosion resistance to organic (amines/ formic acids) and inorganic acids (phthalic anhydride/ paint vehicles). The super-pure material is particularly used for safety-relevant components with high demands on the material and the running time.

1.4404 is also known under the classification AISI 316L.

Application areas

1.4404 ESU is used, for example, for parts in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, which are directly in contact with the products. In addition, the material is also present in a wide variety of industries, such as the food industry, in the construction, the petrochemical industry, automobile industry, as well as engineering and in the construction of fittings, apparatus and containers.

Advantages of saw cut

The processing with the saw is a mechanical processing of the material, which results in a significantly lower unintended deformation and increased hardness for the existing structure, such as the thermal cutting.

Thus, the machined workpiece has a homogeneous structure even at the edge, which does not change in the continuation of the material.
This circumstance allows immediate finishing of the workpiece with milling or drilling . So it is not necessary to anneal the material or make a similar operation beforehand.
