AISI 4130
This AISI standard belongs to the ASTM A29 group.
ASTM A29 is the standard specification for carbon steels and alloyed structural steels to which the following AISI standards can be assigned.
Under the standardization AISI 4130, we understand the following material grades in the German material system:
AISI 4130 alloy steel is a low alloy medium carbon steel according to ASTM A29. AISI 4130 steel is commonly referred to as Chromoly steel or chrome moly steel.
It resembles the AISI 4140 (1.7225 / 42CrMo4) but has a lower carbon content (0.28-0.33%), giving the 4130 material improved weldability.
Standard | Grade | C | Mn | P | S | Si | Cr | Mo |
ASTM A29 | 4130 | 0.28-0.33 | 0.40-0.60 | <0.035 | <0.040 | 0.15-0.35 | 0.80-1.10 | 0.15-0.25 |
With the right heat treatment (normalize, annealing), it is easy to work. In the tempered state, the processing is a little more demanding. Overall, it shows a good combination of strength, wear resistance and toughness.
