Scopes

The material 1.2379 is a ledeburitic cold work tool steel with high wear resistance and good cutting strength. A high resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear and high pressure resistance are given.

Due to the good mechanical properties, this steel can be used in many different applications. Due to the secondary hardening properties a supplementary nitriding and coating of the surface is easily possible. 

Application

The field of application is in drawing and bending tools, plastic molds in the processing of abrasive polymers, machine knives, cold shear knives, cold extrusion tools, thread rolling dies, thread rolling rolls, thermoforming tools, cutting and punching tools and milling cutters. As a high-performance cutting steel, it can also be use in high-performance cutting tools such as dies and punches.

Heat treatment

Soft annealing: The material 1.2379 can be annealed at temperatures of 830°C - 850°C. Subsequently, a slow cooling in the oven must be done.

Stress relief annealing: Stress relief annealing is carried out at 650°C - 700°C with subsequent cooling of the furnace.

Hardening: Hardening takes place at 1010°C - 1030°C with a final cooling in oil, warm bath, air or vacuum.

Tempering: Tempering takes place at 170°C - 190°C.

Advantages of saw cut

The processing with the saw is a mechanical processing of the material, which results in a significantly lower unintended deformation and increased hardness for the existing structure, such as the thermal cutting.

Thus, the machined workpiece has a homogeneous structure even at the edge, which does not change in the continuation of the material.

This circumstance allows immediate finishing of the workpiece with milling or drilling . So it is not necessary to anneal the material or make a similar operation beforehand.
