What is 1.2510 (100MnCrW4)

1.2510 is a cold-work tool steel and one of the most widely used tool steels worldwide. It is oil hardenable. Its excellent properties include high hardness after heat treatment, high dimensional stability, good edge retention and good toughness. Working hardness: 57–62 HRC.

Due to its properties, grade 1.2510 is comparable to grade 1.2842. However, the additional alloying element tungsten makes 1.2510 even more wear-resistant.

The processing with the saw is a mechanical processing of the material, which results in a significantly lower unintended deformation and increased hardness for the existing structure, such as the thermal cutting.

Thus, the machined workpiece has a homogeneous structure even at the edge, which does not change in the continuation of the material.

This circumstance allows immediate finishing of the workpiece with milling or drilling . So it is not necessary to anneal the material or make a similar operation beforehand.

Frequently asked questions about material 1.2510:

No. Due to its relatively low chromium content of less than 1%, the steel does not form passive corrosion protection and is prone to corrosion without proper care.

The two steels are almost equivalent in their basic properties. However, 1.2510 contains the additional alloying element tungsten, which makes it more resistant to abrasion and wear than 1.2842.

It is a proven, medium-alloyed cold-work tool steel.
