1.0570 (S355J2G3) Material Data Sheet
The 1.0570 is an unalloyed structural steel in which the notch impact bending tests can be carried out even at -20°C, with the target value of 27 J in longitudinal samples and 15 J for transverse samples. The thickness of the relevant cross-section is 250 to 500 mm.
The Norm also distinguishes the wall thickness gradations below 100 mm; 100 to 250 mm and then up to 500 mm dependable on the wall thickness of the mechanical property values.
The 1.0570 is also known under the old classification St52-3 and is comparable in the American language to the AISI 1024 (ASTM A29).
Areas of application
The main areas of application of this structural steel are, among others, general mechanical and plant engineering. The steel is has a wide range of application areas, such as Gear boxes, socket parts in shipbuilding, tappets, roller bodies and much more.
1.0570 Features:
Welding suitability | good |
Machinability | 8 (1 = bad - 10 = good) |
Welding: The steel 1.0570 can be welded using all common methods. Low-voltage annealing after welding at a temperature of 550-580°C is recommended.
Cutting machining: Machining can be carried out in the delivery condition without restrictions with a high cutting volume.
Heat treatment
The heat treatment (normalization) of the 1.0570 steel is carried out by a normal annealing in the range 890-950°C with cooling on still air.

Flat, forged, normalized

The processing with the saw is a mechanical processing of the material, which results in a significantly lower unintended deformation and increased hardness for the existing structure, such as the thermal cutting.
Thus, the machined workpiece has a homogeneous structure even at the edge, which does not change in the continuation of the material.
This circumstance allows immediate finishing of the workpiece with milling or drilling . So it is not necessary to anneal the material or make a similar operation beforehand.
